Why Open Education Matters Video Competition Winners

 

The US Department of Education held a competition this year to find people that could tell the world why open education matters.  They picked 1st Blinktower  2nd  Laura Rachfalski and 3rd  Nadia Paola Mireles Torres as winners and In addition to the winning videos, all qualifying videos are available for viewing on the competition website, Why Open Education Matters.   

All of the videos are licensed CC BY, which means others may distribute, remix, and build upon them, even commercially, as long as they give credit to the creators. First place won $25,000 second won $5,000 and third won $1,000.

The competition wasn’t that elaborate this year, a little over 60 videos were qualified for voting.  The Why Open Education Matters website also suffered from a glitch.  Technical problems with the public voting on the Why Open Education Matters website prevented people from submitting a vote, the third prize video was awarded by the judging panel.  Hopefully they will offer this competition next year.  There should be even more entries, and more public participation as everyone is made aware.
