While many schools are just pondering the idea of offering classes online I thought I would offer some suggestions. Please take into account that my list does not cover it all.

What the duck is he talking about?

First off this is an older story I found on the net posted on the 14th of October this year.  Complements of Tech Dirt.  It seems that someone doesn’t like innovation.  Some people are stuck in the past.  But I assure you by the time you read this your jaw will hit the floor.  Just be sure you don’t drool.

Teaching your child the Dangers of Cheating

In the past, when students were cheating, it meant they were writing the answers in ink on their arm, sneaking a cheat sheet of paper into their pocket, or looking over the shoulder of the smart kid in class. However, in today’s technologically advanced culture, cheating has become a lot more advanced. Cheating is simply becoming ubiquitous because it is so easily done. Students as young as elementary school are using the internet to dishonestly earn good grades in school.

Fix this Education

From Businessweek.com comes a series called “Fix this Education“  It is put together well.  Has videos, and transcripts of chats with different people on how to fix the education system in America.  Be sure you view the videos.  They bring up some interesting points.  This is a Business Week quarterly series done in the roundtable style.

Bet you did not know this

So…I am just surfing the Internet, and came across an article explaining about how the Groupon Founders have financed a website called  Udemy.com.  This was a    multi-million dollar deal worth 3 million.  That is cool.  So I read on and found out this new website that started last year in May has seen its online educational offerings quickly grow to 6,000 courses.  They offer free and pay courses.

The kicker here is one of the courses they offer.  Although it is a pay course it cost 250 bucks  to take the course it is still a good deal.  You can earn that money back in no time.  What course do they offer?  Hang on I have to tell you first it is their most popular course they offer on their website.  Now I will tell you what course they offer… “Learn to Develop an iPhone or iPad App in 4 Weeks”  How cool is that?  The real kicker is that the course offered is for aspiring developers with no coding or Objective-C experience.

I get asked this question all the time.  Where can I go?  Who offers that course?  It has been never-ending – hearing at least twice/three times a week the same question. “Where do you go to learn that code for the iPad and iPhone Apps?  There is your answer.  Hop to it!

Here is the main article I got the news from: Groupon Founders Bet Big On Education Website

RIP Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs passed away this past evening.  It’s a sad day for Technology.  Instead of blogging I bring you one of Steve Jobs best speeches he ever made.  Get the tween to adult kids together to watch this because they will definitely understand what Steve has to say.  Hopefully it will inspire them.
